Sledding in a Winter Wonderland

We have been talking about sledding for a while now and today was the day we decided to give in to Wy-man. So we blew up the tube and let him jump on it while Dad-d and I were getting things ready. (Of course he had to jump in his big boy undies!) Then he found his snow boots and had to put them on! But he did it all by himself (even on the correct feet).
Once we got all suited up, he helped us bring the tube down to the entry way.
And we set out to sled. It was perfect because there wasn't anyone else on the hill...but we soon figured out why. We were the ONLY crazy ones willing to sled in the blaming 9 degree weather. (No that wasn't a typo...it was only 9 degrees out.) People were driving by giving us the craziest looks. ;-)
Wy-man loved his first ride down the hill with Dad-d and he even made the long trek back up!
Then it was Mama's turn!
Wy-man took one more run with Dad-d and then we headed back to the car. Wy-man wasn't ready to leave even though we were all frozen popsicles. But he soon obliged so we came home and promptly enjoyed some 'choco hot' (hot chocolate) with marshmallows.
Even though it was a very short trip and was cold beyond belief, we had a wonderful time adding more memories to the memory book! We truly are blessed!

Big Boy Undies...

Well...my little baby is growin' up. That is SO hard for me to say. I am so happy yet sad at the same time. I no longer have a baby...instead an independent, outspoken toddler with a mind of his own.

We have been messing around with this potty training stuff since the summer but with no real progress. He became super interested in going potty on the potty back in July so I thought this process was going to be a breeze. But it hasn't been. He acts interested...then not interested.

So I decided it was time to bite the bullet - I had a 3 day weekend and tons of snow outside (so no reason to leave the house). Why not spend it getting this little man free from diapers?

I bought some Thomas Big Boy Undies thinking they would do the trick. Wy-man wouldn't want Thomas to be sad that he got wet, would he?! So I busted them out and Wy-man's new found freedom was SO exciting. He couldn't wait to lounge around and read his Zoo book... Or even ride his horsie! He even went poopy on the potty and had to read a book during the process. (I am convinced this is why all men take a newspaper or magazine into the bathroom with them. It starts at a young age.) ;-)
We were off to a great start - even playing outside in the snow he didn't have an accident. But then...we had 4 accidents in a row and I was ready to give up.

But I decided to give it another shot. So yesterday I found this Potty Train chart. It was PERFECT fitting into our train theme!
What better solution than a Train chart to go along with the Thomas Big Boy undies. We earned 5 stickers yesterday and had only 1 accident. :-) I thought..."This is it! We are done with diapers..."

Until today...we are now refusing to use the potty. Who knows. Maybe we started too soon, but this boy is smart enough and is demanding Big Boy Undies yet at the same time doesn't want to go potty unless he's in the mood. He sure is strong willed...he doesn't get that from his mama, does he?! I am just not sure this mama is strong enough to continue. Only time will tell. Wish us luck!

Let It Snow

New Year's Eve was a day full of fun. After the Play-doh it began to snow. We got 3.5 inches so I thought Wy-man and I should go outside and enjoy it. This was the first time he has really been able to 'play' in the snow. Kinda crazy, huh....since we live in SD and he is almost 2 and a half. But it's always so darn cold up here that I don't even want to get out in it. ;-)

As you can see he had a great time!
He wasn't quite sure what to do with the snow up to his shins...but he got used to it.
He tried picking it up...
...but wasn't too keen with the snow on his gloves.
After about 15 minutes, his face was rosy and his nose was super snotty so I figured that was our cue to go inside.
But he was super upset about coming in to warm up, so I told him we would go back out when Dad-d got home to help him clear the driveway. So Wy-man grabbed his 'sand' shovel and went to town. He was a HUGE helper don't ya think?! ;-)
He keeps asking when we are going to go shovel again...but it's been way too cold. Hopefully it warms up in the near future and we can go sledding! What a great way to spend New Year's Eve day.
